Joanna Zhu (she/her) grew up in suburban Pennsylvania but found her roots in Massachusetts, where she attended college. She got her start in organizing as a student at UMass Amherst, where she fought to make higher education more affordable and accessible, especially for students of color and non-traditional students. Her background in this work led her to join Sunrise Movement’s Fellowship program. Joanna is currently a Fellow within Sunrise’s Political Department and based in D.C.
